Fees
Third level fees soared in Britain under Labour. In Ireland, the Green Party blocked plans to introduce similar fees that would have forced hundreds of thousands of third level students into debt and kept many bright and talented people out of third level education. Here's a video of what the leader of the Liberal Democrats, Britain's third largest political party said about fees:
Leaving Cert vs A Levels
It was pointed out that the UK equivalent to the Leaving Cert, the A levels are more flexible than the Leaving Certificate. In Ireland, students have to take a minimum of five subjects, including Irish. In the UK there is no minimum number of subjects and half an A level (one year's work) is itself a qualification (called the AS).
